I'm a freelance journalist based in New York. I write and make audio stories about anyone and anything I find interesting. Recently, I tracked down a Ukrainian publisher selling weird editions of Jane Austen novels on Amazon, profiled a circus acrobat who restarted her career after having both feet amputated, and tried “hitokara,” the Japanese practice of doing karaoke alone.

I currently teach journalism at Hunter and Lehman Colleges and I’m an editor at Youth Communication, where I help produce two magazines written by New York City teens and youth in foster care

Before that, I was the Global Managing Editor at BuzzFeed. I've worked and traveled across the former Soviet Union, teaching English in Ukraine as a Peace Corps Volunteer, running a theater camp in Tajikistan and reporting by bicycle from Moscow for NPR. I have a master’s degree in international reporting from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. I'm a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association, the Association of Independents in Radio (AIR) and Study Hall.

I’m also an aerialist, a baker, and a big fan of The Americans.

I’m available for writing and audio assignments. I also do freelance editing for individuals and organizations.
